Obituary

Betty L. (Leggett) Stevenson, a resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Woburn and Arlington, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Palm Center, Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of the late William H. Stevenson, Jr.

Betty was born in Lowell on April 4, 1923, and was a daughter of the late John H. A. and Norma (Reenstierna) Leggett.

Betty was raised in Woburn, where she graduated from Woburn High School. She moved to Arlington where she raised her family and worked at the Symmes Hospital as an operating room administrator until her retirement in 1970. Along with her husband, she was very active in the Army 100th Division reunions and social activities. Betty was a very strong person, having had to adjust to life with Guillain-Barre Syndrome since the 1980's. She is one of the longest survivors of this illness. In her spare time, Betty was an active reader. Most important to Betty was spending time with her cherished family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty leaves her son William H. "Bill" Stevenson and his wife Beth of Bonita Springs, FL, her grandsons; Eric M. Stevenson and his wife Lindsay, William T. Stevenson and his wife Melissa, and Brett M. Stevenson and his wife Andrea, her great-grandchildren; Elin, Eivin, Collin, and Anna, and her cousins; Bob Olson and his wife Sally of Maine, and Paul Olson and his wife Barbara of North Andover.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, 130 Billerica Rd., Chelmsford. Memorial donations may be made in Betty's memory to Compassus Hospice, 790 Turnpike St., Suite 202, North Andover, MA 01845.
