Obituary

NORTH CHELMSFORD - Daniel P. O'Neill, age 80, a resident of North Chelmsford, formerly of Salem and Peabody, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Care One at Concord, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of J. Bonnie (Serra) O'Neill with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Dan was born in Salem, MA, on December 21, 1939 and was a son of the late Michael and Johanna (Coleman) O'Neill.

Dan was raised in Peabody, MA, and graduated from Peabody High School in 1958. After graduation, he proudly served in the US Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1963. After his service, Dan worked as an engineer first for LFE, Boston, and then for 30 years at General Electric in Lynn. At GE, he concentrated on helicopter engines, and spent time in the Middle East during the Gulf War refurbishing the helicopter fleet. Raising his family in Salem, Dan was an attentive and engaged husband and father; he coached youth football and basketball, volunteered at St. James Church, and actively supported the Knights of Columbus and Ancient Order of Hibernians. Since moving to North Chelmsford in 2000, he continued to be involved in his community as a Meadowood Village Board member and as a St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteer from St. John the Evangelist Parish where he also served as a catechist and a collection auditor. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, and traveling with his wife, especially through Europe on river cruises. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Dan leaves his son Daniel P. O'Neill and his wife Lauren of Morristown, NJ, his daughter, Kelly P. Beattie and her husband Mark of Westford, his 6 grandchildren Matthew, William, and Tara O'Neill, and Jennifer, Sarah, and Scott Beattie, his brothers John "Jack" O'Neill of Wenham, and Michael O'Neill and his wife Irene “Sis” of Peabody, his brother-in-law Ronald Serra of Arlington, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Sadly, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph O'Neill and late wife Diane.

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 1, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 o'clock at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 115 Middlesex St., NORTH CHELMSFORD.

Interment will be held privately.

Memorial donations may be made in Daniel's name to Ascend Hospice, 100 Locke Dr., Marlborough, MA 01752.

Dear Bonnie, Kelly,Danny, and both your husband, wife, and all your grandfather's beautiful grandchildren,
Mike an I were so terribly upset to find out about Dan. We love your mother and father
have been praying for both of them for a long time. Bonnie as you know has been a most true friend to me since
we taught together, and still is. She's been through so much herself, with the help of your dear, funny father. They
were both so proud of you Danny and Kelly, and absolutely proud of your marriages to such good people. You both raised
such terrific families with all kinds of accomplishments, that they had much to brag about. Dan will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. We know that Bonnie will be in good hands, with you all taking care of her. We love you
all, and please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers always. Hug my dear friend Bonnie from us.
Love, Jody and Mike Juralewicz and please let us know if your mother needs anything.
