Chelmsford – Robert E. Doak , a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly on New Years Eve at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Linda Doak with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this past September.

Born in Arlington Massachusetts on March 7, 1941, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Hilda (latter) Doak. Bob began his career with the Chelmsford Water District in 1960 and served over 44 years before retiring. Bob received many awards and citations while serving as the Superintendent for over 30 years and was instrumental in creating a water treatment plant that proudly serves the town of Chelmsford. With his accomplishments , Bob was most proud of having the opportunity to work from the ground up and work alongside all members of the Water District. The Water District building was formerly named in his honor upon his retirement.

Aside from his lengthy career with the Water Department Bob was well known for calm demeanor, problem solving skills and love of family. Bob enjoyed his time in the garage and had the ability to fix and repair anything brought his way. Bob spent many hours fixing and repairing cars, lawn mowers or anything with a motor, but was just as handy creating and building anything around the house, earning him the name Mr. Fix It.. Bob truly enjoyed seeing the happiness he brought to others with his skills, that was his reward. When he wasn’t in the garage repairing or creating Bob spent his time outdoors tending to his flower beds and took great pride in his lawn, which was always meticulously maintained. He loved spending time at the beach, enjoyed the beauty and mechanics of antique cars, as well entertaining guests with his love of surround sound.

His love for his family and grandchildren was endless, often seen taking his grandchildren for golf cart rides and spending time with them outdoors. Bob loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his children; Laura Lyons of Westford, Brian Doak of Pepperell, his grandchildren Cameron Goode, Kevin Goode, Maxwell Fadjo, Mariah Fadjo, Collin Doak and Gavin Doak, and his siblings; George Doak of CA and Jacqueline Erb and her husband Ron of CT.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday January 5th from 12pm to 3pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Interment will be private. Family and friends are welcome to join a celebration of Bob’s life on January 6th from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Chelmsford Water Department., 20 Watershed Lane, Chelmsford. Linder & Family
Bob and I were best friends back in the day, then I left town and life went on. It was such a blessing to meet up once again and relive old fun times. He was someone I looked up to. I was so glad to see him again with such a wonderful family and still with the water department. I remember him digging ditches for them in the summer when we were in high school. Mr. Calm was the model of a good man and I will miss him dearly as I know everyone will. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Linder, Brian and Laura. Love, Don & Anne-Marie McCormack
