James Coconis Obituary (1928 - 2014)

CHELMSFORD James Coconis, age 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ann Elaine (Ferreira) (DePaulis) Coconis, to whom he was married for 47 years. He was born in Boston on October 29, 1928, and was a son of the late Constantine and Persephone (Tsamegelis) Coconis. He received his education in Boston schools and was a graduate of Brighton High School. He was also a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting and Finance. Jim served his country as a corporal with the 621st Aviation Maintenance Company in the United States Army during the Korean War. He began his 32 year career in government service as an accountant at the First Naval District in Boston. He later went on to work as an accountant and program analyst at Hanscom Air Force Base before retiring in 1983. Jim was a Mason and a member of the American Legion Post 437 in Westford. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the Boston Red Sox, and when his children were young he coached little league. He also loved to learn and talk about American history. Jim was known for his Greek pastries and pizza. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Deborah P. Coconis and her husband Jeffrey Stowe of Clinton Corners, NY, Thomas J. Coconis of Haverhill, Anita M. Paton and her husband James of Bedford, and Matthew J. Coconis of Boulder, CO, his step-son, David V. DePaulis and his wife Linda of Chelmsford; his three grandchildren, Jordon R. Lane of Pepperell, Eliakim J. Stowe of Clinton Corners, NY, and William J. Paton of Bedford; his nieces and nephews, Betty Seminatore, Peter DaSilva and his wife Janet, Diane Brown and her husband Olin, Patty Hall and her husband Jim, Donald Cochran and his wife Julie, and Michael Coconis; and several great nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Thomas Coconis, Catherine DaSilva, Dorothy Cochran, and Bessie Coconis. It being his wish, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Friday, November 14th at 11 oclock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
