Virginia Barris Obituary (1924 - 2013)

NASHUA, NH Virginia (Osgood) Barris, 88, a resident of Nashua, formerly of Chelmsford, passed away on July 2, 2013 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur R. Barris who died in 2008. She was born in Chelmsford on September 2, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Frederick J. and Helen H. (Potter) Osgood. After high school, Virginia worked in the payroll department for General Electric, and later graduated from the Bradshaw Business School in Lowell. She was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II as a Yeoman 1st Class in the WAVES. After her children were grown, Virginia was employed for 7 years as a secretary at St. Annes Episcopal Church in Lowell where she was an active member. She then worked in the accounting department of the IRS in Andover until her retirement in 1986. Virginia was an avid golfer and knitter, but above all enjoyed spending time at the beach and with her family. Virginia is survived by three daughters; Barbara J. LaFlamme and her husband John of Marstons Mills, Beth A. Stepan and her husband Robert of Nashua, and Martha L. Barris of Nashua, four grandchildren; Marc T. LaFlamme, James F. Barris, Amanda J. Stepan, and Thomas W. Stepan, a sister Beverly OConnell of Michigan, a sister-in-law Dorothy Wallace of Lowell, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 to 7 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Virginias Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10 oclock at St. Annes Episcopal Church, 8 Kirk St., Lowell, MA. Interment will be private.
