Sophie N. Leroux Obituary (1922

CHELMSFORD-Sophie N. Leroux, 87, longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on April 3. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Leroux who predeceased her in 1991. Sophie was born December 17, 1922 in Lowell, a daughter of Piotr and Katazyna (Zabinska) Niedzwiecki. She was also the step-daughter of the late Charles Boudreau. She graduated from Howe High School in Billerica in 1940 and Lowell Commercial College in 1952. She was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served as a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class in World War II. Prior to her retirement, Sophie was employed as an auditor at Hanscom Air Force Base. She was a member of NAREE, Hanscom Federal Credit Union, and Friends of the Chelmsford Senior Center. Sophie is survived by her longtime companion Robert J. Scott of Lowell. She leaves five children; twin sons Clifford R. Leroux and his wife Deborah of Methuen and Alan M. Leroux of Chelmsford, David M. Leroux and his wife Theresa of Pepperell, Kathie A. Boisvert of Chelmsford, Darlene C. Costos and her husband Alan, (owner of Finest Builders) of Chelmsford. She also leaves 12 grandchildren; David Leroux, Jr., Trina Leroux, Jennifer Camann, Cari-Ann Edwards, Jason Leroux, Wesley Leroux, Michael Costos, Dale Leroux, Elizabeth Leroux, Sabrina Young, Brian Callery, and Sean Callery and 11 Great-Grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends at the Chelmsford Senior Center. Sophie will be missed by her sister Wanda Peabody of Tewksbury, her brother-in-law Gerald Tierney of Pepperell, and sisters-in-law Lorraine Gilbert of Florida, and Connie Niedzwiecki. She was predeceased by a brother Edward Niedzwiecki and three sisters Jennie A. Tierney of Pepperell, Amelia Berube of Lowell, and Mary Niedzwiecki. The family would like to thank Community Family Day Care in Lowell and the staff at the VA Hospital in Bedford for their kindness and devoted care of Sophie. Visiting hours on Wed. from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 8 at 9 o'clock at St. John the Evangelist Church, 115 Middlesex St., N. Chelmsford. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
