Walter E. Killerby Obituary (1922 - 2011)

Walter E. Killerby, WWII Veteran LOWELL-Walter E. Killerby, a lifelong resident of the Highlands section of Lowell, died Friday December 23, 2011, at the Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford. He was 89. Walter was the beloved husband of the late Martha J. (Karelas) Killerby, who died April 4, 2010, and to whom he was married for 62 years. Born in Lowell, August 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Blanche (Scoble) Killerby. Mr. Killerby was a US Navy veteran of WWII. During his time in the service, he was stationed in the Philippines, and was also sent to Michigan for training at the Ford Motor Co. While at the Ford Motor Co., Walter was present for Henry Ford's 80th birthday celebration. Walter worked for many years as a Tool Design Engineer for Western Electric in the Bell Labs division, working on the team that developed Trans Atlantic Fiber Optics Cable. He also held several US Patents for various tools that he designed for Western Electric. He was very creative, and a true Mr. Fix It. He was a lifetime member of the William North Lodge A.F. & A.M., in Lowell. Mr. Killerby is survived by his son Frank A. Killerby and his wife Kimberly of Raymond, NH; a daughter Donna M. Killerby and her husband Harold W. Organ, Jr. of Naples, FL; three grandchildren, Jason J. Killerby, Darcy M. Killerby, and Kathryn E. Organ; a very precious 18 mos. old great granddaughter, Raene S. Killerby; a sister in-law, Christine Zouzas; nieces and nephew, Donna E. Zouzas, William Zouzas, and Elizabeth (Matthews) Cook, as well as many dear friends. Walter was also the brother of the late Elizabeth (Killerby) Matthews. Friends will be received at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD on Saturday, Dec. 31st. from 10 am- 12 noon. His Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 31st. at 12 Noon. Interment in Edson Cemetery, Lowell.
