William J. Finnegan Jr. Obituary (1928 - 2014)

NASHUA, NH William J. Finnegan, Jr., 86, of Nashua, and former longtime resident of the Highlands section of Lowell, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2014, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Murphy) Finnegan to whom he had been married for 61 years. He was born in Lowell on June 18, 1928 and was a son of the late William J. and Gertrude (McMahon) Finnegan. William was a graduate of Keith Academy in Lowell. Following high school, he entered the U. S. Army and served in Heidelberg, Germany in the European Headquarters during the Korean War. William then earned an Associates Degree from Merrimack College. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Technical Editor at MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington. William was an avid golfer and reader. He enjoyed his many golf outings with his friends and also enjoyed traveling, especially to Siesta Key in Florida. Above all, William cherished the time he spent with his loving family. In addition to his devoted wife, William is survived by his children; Kathleen (Finnegan) Drolet and her husband Kevin of Nashua, Kevin Finnegan of Nashua, and Karen (Finnegan) Underwood and her husband Kenneth of Westford; and four grandchildren; Dr. Brian Drolet, Elizabeth Drolet, Christopher Underwood, and Jordan Underwood. The Finnegan family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Josephs Hospital in Nashua for the outstanding care they provided to William. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 am at St. Margaret Parish, 374 Stevens St., Lowell, MA. Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, MA.
